Rocks Systems

So this project is an assignment for my Art103 class. We have to make a system to place our rocks.

The first thing I did was look for rocks.

I found this rock at the Fremont Bart Station.

I found this rock outside a Burger King in Bakersfield.

I found this rock outside Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. It was outside the hotel parking lot.

I found this near a tree, also outside the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

I found this rock near a tree near the Light Rail Station on First Ftreet.

I found this rock near a restaurant in Las Vegas called Archi.

I found this rock near a Deli Taco.

I pick this rock up on the way to the Light Rail Station.

I forgot where I got this rock.

I found this rock outside my house.

After I got all my rocks, I label my rocks, give them qualities, and wrote out a systems for them.

Steps:
Drop the rocks on the map, if any rocks land outside the map re throw those rocks (only) back onto the map.

After all rocks land on the map, use a penny to draw a circle around where the rocks landed. It is okay if the circle overlap each other. And label the rocks with the circle coordinate with each other.

After this is all done gave it to someone else and tell them to place the rocks to its coordinate (anywhere inside the circle).





To chose rocks quality(value):
After going to the coordinate of the rocks, find someone nearby.
Ask them to chose a number 1-4. If they ask why say you are doing a project. If they are being complicated try to find someone else.
After someone gave you a number from 1-4, than use that number value to find your location. (if someone gave you an weird number like 1.23, than you can use any qualities of the rock to place the rock)
(Example: If you were to place rock #1 at a location and the number that was given to you by a person was 3. Than you have to place the rock somewhere that is smooth.) [you have to do this for all of the rocks][each rocks location have to be ask by different people]

If for some reasons you can't find a location for the rock because of its quality, than you may used the next number.


Rules for placing the rocks:
Each rocks have 4 qualities (value) shape, look, texture, and color. Rocks have to be place near/on the chosen qualities.
-the rocks can be place anywhere inside the circle of the map (if circle only cover building than anywhere around the building can the rock be place)
-the rocks can be place on trees, on grass, and on cement
-the rocks can be place under chairs, under table, and under bushes
-all rocks have to be place outdoor
-wherever the rocks are place have to be safe (meaning it can not be moved) (example, if it place on the grass it have to be safely secure, stuck to the ground)
-the rocks can't be cover by other objects (can't be underneath the ground where it have to be dug up)
-rocks can be place together, if the coordinate and quality of each of the rocks match up or similar
-after you place the rock take pictures of you and where you place the rocks.
-write down which quality(value) you used to place the rock

Chapter 1

1. Summarize the distinction from the traditional Klines & Clines
Definition of the cyborg vs. the one that Clark is proposing?
Kilnes & Clines definition of the cyborg is artificial devices that help enhance human activities. The device are implanted or attached to the human. While Clark definition of a cyborg is any form of technology. Any objects that change the way human live are a form of a cyborg.

2. What kind of model might you have that is different than this?
For me a cyborg is partly machines and partly living organism. It might not be a 50-50 percentage but as long as the machines part is active and is important to the person just like every part of their body. However, the mechanic parts have to be part of the person and without it they won’t be able to survive.

3. What other kind of definitions of cyborg might there be?
There are many kind of definition like the one in movies.

Chapter 2

1. Summarize a definition as described in the book of what the
Significant attributes are for 'opaque' technology vs. an a
'Transparent’ technology
Opaque technologies are things that only some people would no how to access it and is not open to the public to understand, like missile launcher. Transparent technology are objects that are made simple for everyday uses and everyone can learn it easy and use it so easily that we don’t even have to think about it, like flushing the toilet.

2. Give some examples of technology that should be more transparent
And others that should be more opaque.
Technology that should be transparent: phone, toilet, car, oven, microwave, and refrigerator
Opaque technology: race car, tanks, atom bomb, and airplane

3.Does the watch and dictionary example seem valid to you? Why?
Yes watch should be a transparent technology so we can all check on the time. The dictionary is still a bit opaque since people have to learn to look it up and it will take more time to look for certain words. However, people are trying to make it more transparent to make it easier to find definition of words by using the Internet.

Chapter 3-4

As part of yourself or your identity.
There is this “magic” trick that my sister did on me when I was little. I press my hand hard together and at the same time she say some word. Than she told me to relax and it would feel that my hand is floating, even though it is not really doing anything. But it just feels and looks like it is floating.

3. What are the important properties that must be present in order for?
A system to create telepresence.
The properties that must be present to create a telepresence system are control, communication, and feedback.

4. What forms of telepresence do you find the most attractive?
Meaningful and what are some of the more destructive elements about it?
The thing that I like about telepresence is that I can have control over the communication and feedback of things. I can observe things that are far away and have feedback of the place. However, some bad things about it are that I can overuse it and forget about my own surrounding.

Chapter 5&6
To investigate some of the ideas in the chapters on body
Modifications, consciousness and identity and the idea of displaced
Agency. Use these ideas to create notes and thoughts for your blogs.

Describe and illustrate 2 models model of humans and human lifestyle
Make these humans that are based on evolution vs. revolution
Create a list of attribute and features for each model.
Then make a 2 quick drawing to illustrate this example.
Share these drawings with the class.

1.5: regular people but have enhance features.
2.0: particle race… people no longer have physical form but are in particle and can travel wherever they want

The author points out views about cyborgs. He doesn't state any positive or negative opinion of his own. He only gave out facts on what technology does overall from both sides. He doesn't talk about just pro technology because he wants reader to think about the issues on our own. He only states fact about technology.

skill project

Week 1

So for my skill I decided to try to learn how to get girls number. I am a very shy person when it comes to talking to strangers. Therefore, I decide to ask people what is their technique(s) in getting girls number. And here is the first attempt.




Week 2

So after my interview I interpret his skills/technique. Have eye contact, talk a bit, gave them a gift, and than try to get their phone number.



I was too nervous to ask her for her number.

I try again using the similar technique, but this time I used the origami technique to pick up girls. And what better day than 2 days after Valentine day. (would have been better if it was on Valentine day)




Week 3

I decided I need a girl point of view on how to get girls number. She also critique my previous week and told me how I can improve and what I need to change.


I did got my hair fix after I messed up. It is still bad but not as bad

Week 4

I had another advice from another for the week. I was advice not to ask for girls number, but instead talking to them in a more approachable ways.



I know this was a long interview, but I really like how there was background noise of other people. Also when people distract us and talk to us without knowing that we were there. :p

I didn't finish the crossword puzzle. I got a few good response, but no number.

Week 5

I listen to John advice in talking with girls that I don't know and start a convesation and try not to ask for their number or scare them away.



I pass out all of the fliers and did pretty well approching girls. However, I still have trouble keeping a conversation with them.

This week I went around campus and say hi to random girls. I got some responses, but that was mostly it. However, I didn't film while doing it so I reenact it.

Week 10

So I first try to look up for a speed dating event that I can attend to. Next, try online chat room. However, none of these thing work out so went back to my usual thing and be myself.



Here is a clip that I did talking to some girl on the bus. It is mostly sound because I didn't want her to know I was recording it

art106 project 1_kits

Here are my kits. I have a metal detector on the left and a radio kits on the right. The metal detector would change the frequency of the radio when it locates a metal. I placed the metal detector between the newspaper and the trash can and I placed the radio inside the newspaper.

Noise can be heard from the newspaper holder. When open the noise is even louder. If the person has some sort of metal material on them that is near the metal detector the radio frequency will be effected.
